Smart Energy GB
ACRE is pleased to be working with Smart Energy GB. This partnership will enable us to promote smart meters and inform residents in rural areas about the benefits of installing a smart meter to manage their energy consumption. We are proud to be working with Smart Energy GB to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities to engage in the smart meter rollout, regardless of personal circumstance or where they live.
Working in partnership with Smart Energy GB
Smart Energy GB is the national campaign for Great Britain’s smart meter rollout. It’s their task to help everyone in Great Britain understand smart meters, the national rollout and how to use their new meters to get their gas and electricity under control. Working with and through partnership organisations – from across the voluntary, private and public sectors, is a central part of the campaign. We will be working with Smart Energy GB to ensure that together we can engage thousands of people in rural communities.
Smart meters and the rollout
Smart meters will replace the traditional meters we currently have in our homes. They will provide consumers with accurate bills, near real time information on energy usage in pounds and pence, and greater control over their gas and electricity. The smart meter rollout is an essential technology upgrade, unprecedented in its scale, to improve Great Britain’s energy infrastructure. Between now and 2020, every home and microbusiness across England, Scotland, and Wales will be offered a smart meter by their energy supplier. Over four million smart meters have already been installed.
Smart meters are being installed by energy suppliers. If you choose to get a smart meter, your energy supplier will contact you to arrange an appointment to fit your smart meter and you will not be charged for installation. To find out how you can get a smart meter from your energy supplier please visit the Smart Energy GB website.

What can we offer?
We will be working with Smart Energy GB to help inform and inspire people about smart meters and the positive changes that they can bring. The ACRE Network covers England with a focus on rural areas, each of our network members responds to local needs and has a common purpose of supporting and enabling local communities to thrive and develop. Every member has local reach and extensive communication networks including parish councils, village halls and community buildings, local businesses and individual households, using these networks we will be reaching communities in off gas-grid areas.
Why ACRE and our network?
We believe that smart meters have the potential to provide real benefits to all households; especially those that are off gas-grid whose energy costs may be higher. Our network has the local knowledge and an understanding of the issues in rural areas to reach households who can benefit from getting a smart meter.
