Policy
Community Led Planning (CLP) can build the ‘Big Society’. Across England people are getting involved in Community Led Plans, volunteering their time and energy to help shape the future of their community. By coming together, evidencing local needs, exploring solutions and implementing a plan of action, they are generating a stronger, more sustainable society that is less reliant on the state to get things done.
As the government begins to reduce the budget deficit and cut back public services, communities must have access to the support they need to become more resilient and capable of looking after their own needs.
The following pages show how CLP can enable communities to take action for themselves and explain the support needed for this to happen. They also introduce a number of briefings that ACRE has produced in response to recent policy developments.
Benefits of CLPIf Community Led Planning (CLP) is done well, it can produce many benefits
Support RequiredFor Community Led Planning (CLP) to be effective, communities need to work with parish and town councils where they exist and have access to independent facilitation and resources. They also need to be confident that local authorities and other service providers are well prepared to respond to their plan’s development.
CLP BriefingsACRE has produced a number of policy briefings about Community Led Planning (CLP) in response to national policy developments. These briefings can be downloaded from this page.
Neighbourhood PlanningACRE is working closely with government to see how the experience of Community Led Planning (CLP) can inform the development of Neighbourhood Planning policy
