Plan LoCaL: building sustainability into Community Led Planning
ACRE was involved in a programme of work between 2009 - 2010 led by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) that sought to identify ways that communities can identify, plan for, and implement low-carbon solutions for their local area. CSE were particularly interested to learn about how the CLP process can help communities to achieve this. Drawing on the experience of several RCAN members, CSE have produced online resources that compliment ACRE’s CLP toolkit. These can be accessed via the Plan Local website. A short introductory video is also available.
Community Governance Research Project
ACRE worked with Urban Forum, Action for Market Towns (AMT), the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) and Community Matters on an action research project that looked at how community governance can be strengthened in urban areas by undertaking Community Led Planning and setting up new local councils. 3 pilots were undertaken in Hereford, Bedford and Scunthorpe. A short video detailing the experience in Hereford can be accessed here.
