Performing Right Society Limited

49% of halls responding to ACRE's National Village Hall Survey held a PRS Licence

The Performing Right Society Limited is a non-profit association representing music creators (composers and authors) and music publishers. PRS administers certain of the rights granted to them under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, including the right of public performance.

The Performing Right Society consulted on their Code of Practice. The Code was fairly straightforward but ACRE submitted a short response to highlight some issues that have been identified via the RCAN network.

ACRE response to the PRS Code of Practice

From January 2012 PRS will be collecting the licence monies for PRS and PPL. See ACRE's briefing for further information.

ACRE suggests that you contact your local MP and/or the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) to inform them of the financial impact that the licences (PRS & PPL) are having on your village hall and to press for the tariff structure to be reviewed.

It is a legal requirement to hold the licences but the rates can be changed so please suggest that a review takes place.

You can also write to PRS to complain see the address details at the bottom of the Code of Practice.
