Playing Fields

Recreational space, dedicated sports’ grounds and playing fields are all community assets managed and maintained by the parish council, the village hall management committee, the church, a combination of both or by a group, brought together specifically to provide an amenity for the community.

Barrington Youth and Community Project

Barrington Youth and Community Project transformed a 3.5 acre field into tranquil parkland with leisure facilities open for use by everyone. Over 440 trees, 1,100 scrub plants and a wildflower meadow were planted, A wetland area was created and space made for allotments. Seating and access paths are available with a large amenity grassland area and a hard multi-use games area. As the fields and plants grow and mature, the field will provide a habitat for the wildlife and will give pleasure for generations to come. The project was undertaken by the Barrington Village Hall and Playing Field Charity, the local parish council and the church.

County Playing Fields Associations (CPFAs) support the work of fit (fields in trust), formerly National Playing Fields Association, as well as providing additional services such as field management, planning, grants and loans and active support for local projects. CPFAs exist in most counties across England but they focus mainly on rural areas, working with town and parish councils and other local groups to ensure communities have access to a full range of recreation activities and services.
