COMMA

Following the Spending Review settlement, in October 2010, the Government discontinued the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund (ALSF). This means that the COMMA fund, which is part of the ALSF programme is now closed. ACRE delivered this annual grants programme between 2007 and 2011 and it is with regret that we announce its closure.

In total the COMMA fund attracted over 900 applications. Grants totalling £1,788,050 were awarded to 190 community projects which have provided genuine and lasting benefit in communities affected by aggregates extraction or transportation.

Launching the new play area

The COMMA fund awarded grants to community groups for projects which have made a real difference to their local communities. Many of these groups also contributed their own financial resources, time and voluntary effort, alongside the grants, in order to make the projects a success.

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) urged the Government to rethink their decision to close the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund(ALSF). They have put forward ideas for an alternative fund which support the Governments vision of ‘The Big Society’.
