Third Sector Declaration

The purpose of the Declaration is to make a public statement, and create a framework for change. The aim is that Third Sector organisations will make a contribution to reducing the negative impacts of climate change. The Declaration explains in simple terms the reasons for all Third Sector organisations, regardless of their mission and vision or how they define their organisation, to act now on climate change.

The Third Sector Declaration on Climate Change has been widely supported by the Rural Community Action Network. The Declaration is a statement of intent by third sector organisations across the board to tackle the issue of climate change. The purpose of the Declaration is to make a public statement, and create a framework for change. The aim is that Third Sector organisations will make a contribution to reducing the negative impacts of climate change.

The Rural Community Action Network support the view contained within the declaration that third sector organisations are uniquely placed to reach the most disadvantaged and to empower them to play their part in creating sustainable communities. Over 90% of our network members have signed the Third Sector Declaration on Climate Change and are recognising best practice in environmental practices in their organisational planning.

Everyone has a right to a clean and healthy environment. We know that climate change is a major challenge to this right, ours and future generations’. Climate change is not only about the environment. It can have positive and negative impacts on our ability to support a prosperous and fair society. Climate change projections continue to show that the UK will increasingly suffer from climate change and that it will also have a massive negative impact on the poor in this country and others around the world. So we need to mitigate and adapt to the impacts of climate change now.
