Better Energy Bill

ACRE joins the Better Energy Bill campaign

ACRE has recently announced its support for the Better Energy Bill campaign. The campaign is calling for the addition of the Warm Homes Amendment to the Bill. The Warm Homes amendment would ensure the Government sets out a programme on energy efficiency, including the Green Deal, to fit within an overarching strategy for energy savings that is sufficient to meet the ambition of the Climate Change Act and reinforces the need for energy efficiency policies to contribute to eradicating fuel poverty.

“ACRE and its Rural Community Action Network members urge the government to strengthen its commitment to tackle fuel poverty, which is one of the biggest long-term challenges in rural areas. Our members across the country actively support communities to recognise the impact on the most vulnerable rural residents of poor access to mains gas and poor quality insulation of rural housing. Rural communities have often led the way in collective action to reduce energy use and generate sustainable energy to help meet climate change targets. Now they need a fit for purpose Energy Bill to provide a framework for their efforts to tackle fuel poverty.”
