Emergency planning

Community Emergency Plans can be developed by local communities as a way of being prepared for major incidents. These may be disasters, accidents, or environmental problems such as such a severe weather, storms, snow or heat wave. These emergencies may result in a loss of essential services such as prolonged power failure, restricted access to drinking water or other disruptions to services.

A Community Emergency Plan documents how a community would respond to an emergency situation e.g. while awaiting the assistance of statutory authorities or Emergency Services, or in support of them. Communities are therefore being encouraged to produce their own Emergency Plan so that they can be prepared, know what to do, and are in a better position to deal with incidents.
