ACRE has responded to a number of consultations in respect of fuel poverty and energy generation.

Energy Generation

Microgeneration Strategy (2011) - DECC

ACRE responded to the consultation on the Microgeneration Strategy in March 2011 in relation to the community energy aspects of the strategy. ACRE welcomed the Government's support for community microgeneration and provided case studies from RCAN members to demonstrate the opportunities the "community energy sector" brings. Off-Grid Energy Market Study (2011) - Office for Fair Trading

ACRE provided evidence to the Off-Grid Energy Market Study in May 2011 with input from RCAN members. The study covered heating oil, LPG, electricity and whether microgeneration technology as a viable alternative energy source for off-grid households. RCAN members provided case studies and anecdotal evidence on the drivers of price, customer experiences and short term conditions in the heating oil market. Feed-in tariffs scheme: consultation on Comprehensive Review Phase 1 - tariffs for solar PV (2011) - DECC

ACRE provided evidence to the consultation on Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) for Solar PV in December 2011 with input from RCAN members. The consultation covered the proposed changes to the tariffs and a proposal for new energy efficiency requirements for property owners. RCAN members provided evidence on the impacts the proposed changes would have community buildings and village halls in rural areas. Read ACRE's full response to the FITs for Solar PV.

Green Deal and ECO consultation (2012) - DECC

ACRE provided a response to the consultation on the Green Deal and ECO in Janaury 2012. The consultation covered the proposals for a new innovative policy which is market driven to enable consumers to access finance to fund energy efficiency measures in their properties. The new Energy Company Obligation (ECO) will have an Affordable Warmth Obligation to help the fuel poor and Carbon Saving Obligation will support households in hard to treat homes to install Solid Wall Insultation. Fuel Poverty

Hill's Fuel Poverty Review (2011) - DECC

ACRE provided evidence to the Hill's Fuel Poverty review in June 2011 with input from RCAN members. ACRE asked the Review to consider the distinct nature of rural fuel poverty due to a high number of solid wall homes, a high number of off-grid households and lower than average wages. ACRE also highlighted that Government measures need to take into account the high costs to address fuel poverty in rural areas. RCAN members provided case studies and evidence on the nature of fuel poverty in rural areas, who it affects the most and how to identify the fuel poor in communities.
